This 2009 Presidential election in Indonesia is very interesting to follow, from the very start till the end or the result. The reason is because all 3 contestants bring forward interesting slogans which are the very answer to the nation's problems, i.e. welfare , esp. for the grass roots, education and healthcare. They differ- however- in their strategies. While SBY - Boediono prefers the middle way between liberal and "people's economy, Mega - Prabowo stresses on the welfare of the poor and JK - Win - at least to me - is leaning to SBY_Boed's strategy. What I think is because JK being incumbent has been doing the present strategy. He also stresses on enhancing the national potentialities, including domestic experts. So not too dependent on foreign rxpatriates.
Myself, being already doing in micro-finance activities through a Cooperative , am very interested in what Prabowo will do if ellected. The reason is because I have seen and experienced how difficult it is to get financial support from any institution, Government as well as non- Government, to be lent to those small enterpreneurs who cannot afford to provide collateral for their loan. The reasons are several. One is because the Banks cannot deal directly with them as they are small but numerous, causing high operational cost for the Banks. Number two is because without any collateral they are not bankable according to the existing banking regulations.
So, a suitable solution must be created and I am so curious what Mega-Prabowo would do.
In the June 5th Kompas edition it was reported the the Ascociation of Smallholders had proposed to the Government to create what we call UMKM Banks - that is Banks which deal with such small enterpreneurs, for which a special regulation should be endorsed first.
So, let us cross our fingers !!!!!!!
